1887 Alice Ena Hedges (Hawkins)

Alice Hedges (Hawkins)

When Alice Ena Hedges was born on 9 February 1887, her father, Thomas, was 24, and her mother, Ellen, was 19.

She met her husband, an Australian soldier, when he was on leave from the Western Front during WW1.

She sailed, alone, in 1920 on the steam ship Hororata to Australia to join him.

They were pioneers travelling across Australia when she gave birth to twins under a wagon.

They settled and became sheep farmers, and later had another daughter.

She died in 1965 at the age of 78.
