1893 Edward Stanley

Edward Stanley 


When Edward Stanley was born in 1893 in Tutbury, Staffordshire, his father, Edward, was 35 and his mother, Ada, was 24. 

He trained to be a teacher at Saltley College. 

He served in WW1 as a Corporal in the 17th Service Battalion Manchester Regiment. He was shot at the Battle of the Somme. He was then posted to the East Indies, and caught malaria on the SS Barunga. He served in the Home Guard in WW11. 

He married Minnie Baggaley in July 1919 in Salford, Lancashire. They had two sons. He had three brothers and one sister. 

He was head teacher of a Primary School in Salford and he conducted the Manchester Childrens Choir. 

He died in 1964 at the age of 73.
