When Thomas Henry Oakden was born on 31 October 1893 in Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire, his father, Thomas, was 37 and his mother, Martha, was 34.
He served in the Grenadier Guards in WW1, where he became a Major and won the DSO and MC.
He was the registrar for births, marriages and deaths in Tutbury.
He married Mabel Beatrice Price in 1926 in Rolleston on Dove, Staffordshire (she threatened him with a breach of promise suit when he considered changing his mind!).
An excellent salmon fisherman, he had a fishing fly names after him (the Tommy Special) and is rumoured to have caught the last salmon in the Dove. He ended his working life taking tourists salmon fishing.
He died in September 1969 in Hereford, Herefordshire, at the age of 75.
