David Oakden

When David Oakden was born on 2 April 1927 in Tutbury, Staffordshire, his father, William, was 36 and his mother, Margaret, was 32. 

He married Margaret Harrison in March 1951 in Stafford, Staffordshire and they had two children during their marriage, Susan and Richard. 

When working he was a teacher, head teacher and finally school inspector. Once he retired, he became a prolific author of children's books. He was also a brilliant poet.  

After retirement he worked for the RSPB and was a volunteer ambulance driver and school governor. 

He died on 13 March 2016 in Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire, at the age of 88
